Bitumen is an excellent structure-borne sound absorbent because it has a very high volume weight. Especially good for dampening metal-rattling sound.

The material is flexible and can easily be folded over corners when for example insulating a cabinet. There is probably bitumen under your kitchen sink for dampening the water on metal sound.
