PTFE, Poly-Tetra-Fluoro-Ethylene or Teflon® as is the most known trade name, is a tough plastic based material and is extremely temperature resistant with very low friction values.The material is persistent against heated oils and petrol as well as a big set of acids and alkalis, which makes the PTFE well suited for products where multiple stresses will be put to the material.

A PTFE material may be acquired coal- and glass filled to bring forth other properties in the material. A carbon filled PTFE is a more mechanical and durable material. A glass filled PTFE contributes to a more compression resistant material and the material becomes less deformable under pressure. The material may also be reinforced with different fiber-inlays to, for example, decrease the materials elasticity. The material may be reinforced with glass,- aramide- and carbon fiber.
